On Thursday we drove to Florence. I was really looking forward to Florence, but was somewhat disappointed. It was extremely crowded and very dirty. You can even see the dirty air in the panorma of Florence below:
Maybe what bothered me most about Florence was every place I tried to go to ended up being closed. I walked all over Florence and just as I would get to where I wanted to be the exhibit had either just closed or was closed for the entire day. I really wanted to get into the Science museum to check out Galeleo's finger!
I did manage to see Michelangelo's statue of David which was the number one attraction on my list. I was surprised how big it is. This picture gives you an idea of the scale. It was at least 12' tall.
We went thru the main cathedral in Florence where it seems everyone important in Italy is buried. Here is Dante's grave. Galleleo is here as is lesser people like Marconi (invented the wireless telegraph). If I understood the tour guide correctly, the person is buried under the floor below these monuments. They aren't in the caskette you would see on each tomb.
