The Beach

The beach was fantastic! I was happy I wore my shorts (looking every bit the part of the American Tourist) because I was able to walk out into the water up to my knees. The water is warmer there in October than it is here in Seattle in the middle of the summer.

I learned to swim here in the Mediterranean. One day I was at the beach by myself and an airplane flew over and dropped a hundreds of little plastic cards on tiny parachutes. I remember having to swim into water well over my head to get one. It ended up being a promotion - if you bought some kind of cheese you got some little toy.

I went directly west of the town center onto the public beach. This is a picture facing North. You can see Marina di Pisa in the distance. I don't think anyone on the tour will soon forget the restraurant in Marina di Pisa and their "sea creature medley"!
